With 136,000 residents Sunnyvale is the 2nd most populous city in the county. Located  right in the center of Silicon Valley it has always been popular for its convenience to all the employment centers.

It is in many ways a classic bedroom community with large tracts of mainly single level houses built from the 1960’s through 1970’s. The majority of homes are 3 and 4 bedroom ranch houses on decent sized lots. More recent building is likely to be larger 2 storey homes built on smaller lots.

There is a very pleasant downtown which almost disappeared beneath the demolition hammers in the early 1980’s, but was rescued just in time by a more responsible city government. It is now one of the more vibrant places in the valley with excellent shopping, restaurants, and youth oriented entertainment.

Although it has some large high tech companies Sunnyvale is better known for the wide range of smaller companies which serve the giants and is often the incubator for new success stories.

Schools vary more than in most Valley cities but are all in the top half of state rankings with some in the 80’s and 90’s. Some research is always required on this matter to be sure where your chosen location might fall.

The city is effectively cut off from its northern neighborhoods by highway 101. Most of the residential development is to the South of the highway while large mobile home communities dominate the North side.
